湖北襄阳南漳县素有“中国古山寨文化之乡”的美誉，境内现存上千座古山寨，其中386座被列入历史文物保护名录。2013年，南漳古山寨群被列为全国重点文物保护单位。5月18日，极目新闻记者探访南漳县东巩镇石峡坪村，揭开了一座鲜为人知的古寨——大包寨的神秘面纱。这座始建于明清之前的古寨，其独特的等腰三角形造型和精湛的建筑工艺，是南漳古山寨群中的又一瑰宝。
Nanzhang County in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, is renowned as the “Hometown of Ancient Mountain Fortsin China”. Within its borders lie thousands of ancient forts, with 386 included in the historical and cultural relics protection list. In 2013, the Nanzhang Ancient FortsCluster was recognized as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. On May 18th, Jimu News reporters of Chutian Metro Dailyvisited Shixiaping Village in Donggong Town, Nanzhang County, unveiling the mystery of a little-known ancient fort - Dabao Fort. Initially constructed before the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this ancient fort, with its distinctive isosceles triangle shape and exquisite architectural craftsmanship, is another gem in the ancient mountain fortscluster of Nanzhang.
古山寨大包寨坐东朝西立于东巩镇石峡坪村麻城河白象岩之巅，从山脚出发，一路沿曲折山道上行约1公里，拐过最后一道山弯，登上海拔480米的山巅，便揭开了大包寨的神秘面纱。
The Ancient Dabao Fortstands atop White Elephant Rockalong the Macheng River in Shixiaping Village, Donggong Town, facing west.Starting from the foot of the mountain, a kilometer’s journey along the winding mountain path ends in a final bend, and upon reaching the summit at an altitude of 480m, the mystery of Dabao Fort is revealed.
“从保存完好的碉楼、炮台等设施来看，这是一座极具代表性的军事防御型古寨。”南漳县文史专家庹先沮介绍，大包寨寨墙高达6米-9米，总长110米，内有52间寨房。最令人惊叹的是其完美的等腰三角形构造，这种独特造型在南漳现存古山寨中绝无仅有。
“Judging from the well-preserved watchtowers, gun emplacements, and other features, this is an accurate representation of an ancient military defense fortress,” said Tu Xianju, a local cultural and historical expert. The fortresswalls of Dabao Fort stand at 6-9m high, with a total length of 110m and 52 houses inside. Most striking is its perfect isosceles triangle structure, a unique shape unparalleled among Nanzhang’s existing ancient forts.
石峡坪村党委书记秦兴军介绍：“专家发现，这些石块之间是用石膏、糯米和桐油加固的。”这种传统工艺让寨墙历经数百年风雨依然坚固。寨内现存15块重修碑刻，这块民国廿五年的石碑记载了其防御功能：“邑居有城山居有砦（寨），所以衞人以防寇盗也。”令人遗憾的是，关于大包寨的始修年代，已经很难考证。
Qin Xingjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shixiaping Village, introduced: “Experts found that the stones are reinforced with plaster, glutinous rice, and tung oil.” This traditional craftsmanship has kept the fortresswalls sturdy through centuries of weathering. There are 15 existing renovation inscriptions within the Fort. A stone tablet from the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936) notes its function: “Those who dwelled in plains built walls to protect themselves from bandits and enemies, while those in mountainous areas constructed fortresses for the same purpose.” Regrettably, the original construction date of Dabao Fort is hard to verify.
从大包寨内保存较为完好的碉楼、古炮台、射击孔等军事防御设施来看，这是一座极具代表性的军事防御型古寨，同时里面有座关公庙，是一座寨庙合一的建筑。
Given the intact military defense structures like watchtowers, ancient gun emplacements, and gun holes, Dabao Fort is a typical military defense ancient village. It also houses a Guan Yu temple, combining the fortressand temple in one building.
在大包寨方圆千米之内，林立着6座文化厚重、保存完好的古山寨。石峡坪村目前也已发现大包寨、秦王寨、鸡公寨、高家垭寨4座古山寨。村中老人回忆，新中国成立前村民常躲进寨子避匪。“土匪来了，大家就往山上跑，躲进去。”石峡坪村治保主任赵应河小时候就听祖母提起这座山寨。如今，村里已修通登山步道，并组建巡查队定期保护古寨。“老祖宗留下的宝贝，咱们得看好了传给子孙后代。”秦兴军说。
Within a kilometer of Dabao Fort, six culturally rich and well-preserved ancient fortresses stand. So far, four ancient villages - Dabao Fort, Qinwang Fort, Jigong Fort, and Gaojiaya Fort- have been discovered in Shixiaping Village. Elderly residents in the area recall that prior to the founding of New China, villagers often took refuge in these forts from bandits. “When bandits came, everyone would run up the mountain and hideinside these forts.” As a kid, Zhao Yinghe, director of the village’s security office, recalls his grandmother sharing accounts of the mountainous fort. Now, the village has built hiking trails and organizes regular patrols to protect the ancient forts. “These treasures left by our ancestors must be preserved for future generations,” Qin Xingjun said.
“今年年初，我们在进山的泥路上铺出了一条1米多宽的石阶步道，村干部和村民们还组成巡查队，定期上山记录古寨状况。”秦兴军介绍。
“Earlier this year, we constructed a 1-meter-wide stone step path on the previously muddy mountain road. Local officials and residents have also formed patrol teams to regularly document the ancient forts’ condition,” Qin Xingjun added.
今年3月中旬，襄阳市住房和城市更新局在开展历史文化名村、传统村落调研时，来到石峡坪村特别考察了大包寨，给出一系列保护利用工作的建议。这座沉默数百年的古寨，正迎来新的生机。
In mid-March this year, the Xiangyang Municipal Housing and Urban Renewal Bureau during a survey of historical and cultural villages and traditional settlements, visited Shixiaping’s Dabao Fort, offering suggestions for its protection and utilization. This ancient fort, silent for centuries, is on the verge of new beginnings.
