The third session of the 14th Hubei Provincial People’s Congress opened in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province, on January 16, 2025.
Secretary of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee Wang Zhonglin chaired the conference and Li Dianxun, governor of Hubei Province, delivered the report on the work of Hubei Provincial People's Government.
The report gives a comprehensive review of Hubei’ssocial and economic achievements in 2024, and lists the government's work and main targets in 2025. The following are the highlights of the report.
Review of work in 2024
Economy
- Hubei’s gross domestic product (GDP) was expected toexceed 5.9 trillion yuan.
- Industrial added value increased by 7.7 percent.
- Investment in fixed assetsgrew by 6.5 percent.
- Total retail sales of consumer goodsroseby 5.1 percent.
- Grain production reached55.7 billion jin (equal to 27.85 billion kg).
Sci-tech innovation
- Hubei won 19 national science and technology awards, ranking second inChina.
- Hubei boasted19 industries worthover one hundred billion yuan.
- Three major industries of optoelectronic information, automobile manufacturing, and health surpassed one-trillion threshold.
- Added value of high-tech manufacturing industry increased by 22.7percent, and its contribution rate to industrial growth reached 35.1percent.
- Added value of digital economyaccounted for more than 50percent.
- Hubei embraced30,000 high-tech enterprises and 45,000 technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.
Infrastructure
- Two new international airports,namelyEzhou Huahu International Airport and Yichang Sanxia International Airport,were added.
- Container throughput of Wuhan Port reached 3.5 million TEUs, ranking first in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
- Jingmen-Jingzhou high-speed railwaywas put into operation.
- A total of15,700 projects worth over 100 million yuanwere built, with a total investment of 10.8 trillion yuan.
- Wuhanenjoyed a high growth rate among sub-provincial cities.
- Economic aggregate of Xiangyang and Yichang exceeded 600 billion yuan.
- Xiaogan and Huanggang surpassed a scale of 300 billion yuan after Jingzhou.
Reform and opening-up
- Revenue of Hubei’s provincialenterprisesincreased by 26.2percent.
- Six state-owned enterpriseswere listed among China's top 500 enterprises.
- More than one million business entities have been annually added for four consecutive years.
- Scale of social financing has exceeded one trillion yuan annually for four consecutive years.
- Ezhou Huahu International Airport launched 91 domesticandinternational cargo routes, with cargo and mail throughput of 1.28 million tonnes, ranking fifth in China.
- Hubei’s import and export volumesurpassed 700 billion yuan.
People's well-being
- More than900,000 new urban jobs have been created for four consecutive years.
- Hubei has attractedover 400,000 college graduates for employment and entrepreneurship for three consecutive years.
- 86percent of countiesin Hubei built tertiary hospitals.
- Urban 12-minute emergency circleand rural 30-minute medical circlewere initially formed.
- Rural areas achieved full coverage of delivery logistics, charging stations, 5G networks, and high-quality rural roads.
