A Breathtaking Chu-style Phoenix Dance and Passionate Tujia Folk Song

一群浴火重生的凤凰展翅舞动,尽显楚文化的瑰丽烂漫;一群土家汉子与摇滚乐队激情碰撞,共同喊出震撼人心的高腔;来自峡江的女歌手,曼妙唱响湖北风情歌曲《绿水青山》……11月4日晚,长江文化艺术季闭幕演出“唯见长江”大型交响音舞诗画中,多个充满荆楚风情元素的节目先后亮相,以时尚多彩的艺术魅力惊艳全场。
A flock of phoenixes rise from the ashes, their wings spread out in a dance showcasing the enchanting Chu culture; A group of men from the Tujia ethnic group along with a rock band belt out to unbelievably high notes in a passionate collaboration; A singer from Xiajiang gives an elegant rendition of the Hubei folk song Lush Waters and Green Mountains. On November 4th, performances infused with Jingchu culture unfolded one after another, a treat for the audience who enjoyed the stylish yet artistic closing performance of the Yangtze River Cultural Arts Season, a grand symphonic music and dance poem titled “Only the Yangtze”.
由著名艺术家杨丽萍编导的舞蹈《凤鸣朝阳》,是杨丽萍最新作品、大型史诗舞台剧《荆楚映象》中最华彩的片段之一。该剧自今年7月在武汉首演后反响热烈,目前已在全国演出多场。
The dance Phoenix Rising directed by the renowned artist Yang Liping is one of the most breathtaking segments from her latest work, the epic theatrical drama Jingchu Impression. Since its premiere in Wuhan this July, the performance has received an overwhelmingly positive response and has since been staged in many cities across China.
“《荆楚映象》刚参加了第23届中国上海艺术节演出,连演3场。11月2日晚结束最后一场演出,第二天中午,我们《凤鸣朝阳》演员小分队就马不停蹄赶到宜昌,参加这次闭幕式演出。”《荆楚映象》制作人王磊介绍,《凤鸣朝阳》这个舞蹈片段迄今网上点击量已超400亿人次,很受观众喜爱。整个舞蹈8分多钟,参演演员23名,演员们倾情舞动,将观众带入了凤翔天际的炫彩奇幻之境。“楚人崇凤,今天我们把这群吉祥神鸟带回了湖北老家,特别有意义。”王磊说。
The drama recently participated in the 23rd China Shanghai International Arts Festival, where it was performed three consecutive times. Following their final performance at the festival on the evening of November 2nd, the group then rushed to Yichang the next day to perform at the closing ceremony. According to Wang Lei, the producer of Jingchu Impression, the segment Phoenix Rising has garnered over 40 billion views online and has since become a crowd favorite. The entire dance lasts over eight minutes and is performed by 23 dancers. Their passionate yet skillful dance brings to life a mythical and magical world where the phoenix soars across the sky. Wang Lei mentioned that the people of the ancient Chu state revere the phoenix. This time, the performance is especially meaningful as they brought those auspicious birds back to their hometown, Hubei province.
“有了快活就要喊,喊得长江浪赶浪。”由知名歌手乌兰图雅、土家青年歌手易汉章领唱的原生态与流行对唱《喊高腔》,也以流行与传统碰撞的形式,时尚地展现荆楚土家风韵,让现场观众耳目一新,大呼过瘾。
“When joy arises, you have to shout it out, and the waves of the Yangtze River will follow”. The traditional and pop duet Tujia Gaoqiang, performed by famous singer Wulan Tuya and young Tujia folk singer Yi Hanzhang, combined traditional and modern elements, offering a modern take of the traditional Tujia melody.
“这个作品是周立荣、方石两位湖北音乐家的最新力作,巧妙地将土家高腔山歌号子与流行唱法相结合,我们唱得也很带劲。”
“This is the latest work by two Hubei musicians, Zhou Lirong and Fang Shi. It cleverly integrates high-pitched Tujia folk songs with vocal techniques common in pop music. That’s why we sang it this way,” The singers said.
湖北省民族歌舞团青年歌手、“土家稀奇哥”之一易汉章介绍,歌曲以摇滚乐队为伴奏,同时融入了三弦、笛子等中国民族乐器,以及土家号角、土家民间器乐形式“打溜子”等,既时尚又接地气,“唱出了新时代荆楚人民的激情”。
According to Yi Hanzhang, a young singer from the Hubei National Song and Dance Troupe and member of an ethnic band, the song is accompanied by a rock band, while incorporating traditional Chinese instruments such as the Sanxian (a three-stringed instrument), flute and Tujia folk instruments. It blends modern style with ethnic elements and showcases the passionate people of Jingchu in the new era.
《绿水青山》是一首曾经唱响央视春晚的湖北优秀原创歌曲,此次闭幕演出中,由陈冬梅、熊子瑶、别玉芳等6位三峡女歌手清新演绎,伴以曼妙的舞蹈,尽显醉人湖北风韵。
Lush Waters and Green Mountains, an iconic original song from Hubei, was previously performed at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, by six highly talented singers from the Three Gorges region. Coupled with their graceful dance, the performance fully showcased the allure of Hubei culture.
在民乐协奏节目《长江流过我家乡》中,来自湖北编钟国乐团的十位青年女演奏者,以活泼灵动的新民乐形式奏响湖北民歌《龙船调》,引来台下不少观灰兴奋地拍手跟唱。“整场演出放眼长江,气势恢宏,同时也有很多湖北元素时尚绽放,让我们十分惊艳,并为家乡湖北感到骄傲。”来自三峡大学的观众李女士说。
During the traditional Chinese music ensemble The Yangtze Flows Through My Hometown, ten young musicians from the Hubei Bell and Drum National Orchestra presented a famous Hubei folk song Dragon-Boat Melody in a lively and new way. The audience enthusiastically applauded and sang along with the beat. “The performance paints a beautiful picture of the Yangtze River, and we were really impressed by how many iconic elements of Hubei were incorporated. It makes us so proud of our hometown,” said Ms. Li who was in attendance at China Three Gorges University.
