11月4日上午8时许,武汉软件工程职业学院跨境电商专业的21名南非留学生们走进教室,开始学习。

On November 4, 2024, at around 8 a.m., 21 South African students majoring in cross-border e-commerce at Wuhan Vocational College of Software and Engineering entered their classroom,ready to start their studies.

距2024年6月5日参加开学仪式时,已过去5个月,这些首批通过“丝路电商工坊(南非)”项目,来到华中地区高职院校学习的南非国家奖学金公派留学生,已习惯了“课堂在学校也在企业”的教学方式。他们也闯出了不少成果:学了技术,开了网店,成了“红人”。

These students are part of the first group to join the “Silk Road E-commerce Workshop (South Africa)” program, which launched on June 5, 2024. Five months have passed since the opening ceremony,and the national scholarship recipients have quickly adapted to the “school-enterprise cooperation” model. During this time, they have made significant strides: acquiring new skills, launching online stores, and even establishing themselves as online influencers.

One-Year Program Features Nine-Month Business Internship

“留学生来之前,我们就与武汉5家知名跨境电商企业牵手,启动了中南跨境电商专业职业教育合作项目。1年留学期间,学生们在校内学3个月,在企业实习9个月。”武汉软件工程职业学院商学院院长郭黎介绍,这是为了使学生们熟练掌握电商技术技能、产业链实战等和促进文化交流。

Before the students arrived, WHVCSE collaborated with five well-known cross-border e-commerce companies in Wuhan to launch a vocational education cooperation project focused on cross-border e-commerce between China and South AfricaAccording to Guo Li,Dean of the Business School at WHVCSE, the program spans one year, with three months of academic study and nine months of internship in enterprises. This structure is designed to equip students with technical e-commerce skills, provide hands-on experience in the industrial chain, and promote cultural exchange.

今年8月,在学校学了“跨境电商基础”“跨境视觉营销设计”“跨境海外推广”“跨境运营创业”等课程后,留学生们和5家企业进行实习“配对”:梦想开店的Msevhe Gift Mandla(中文名为“礼物”),和6位同学一起去了主营跨境电商平台运营、跨境直播业务的武汉市一火三焱跨境电子商务有限公司;想为解决南非的“电荒”做点什么的班长Maipato Veronica Maine(中文名为“罗妮”),去了致力于自主知识产权新能源相关技术和产品的研发、生产、销售和服务的武汉烽火富华电气有限责任公司;从南非一所学院(college)数学专业毕业的“马依妮”去了主要从事外贸进出口数据平台运营的武汉国贸通大数据有限公司……

In August 2024, after completing courses such as “Introduction to Cross-Border E-Commerce,” “Cross-Border Visual Marketing & Design,” “Cross-Border Trade Promotion,” and “Cross-Border Entrepreneurship,” the international students were matched with five different companies for their internships.Msevhe Gift Mandla, who dreams of opening his own store (known as ‘Li Wu’in Chinese), along with his six classmatesjoined Fire’s E-commerce, a company specializing in cross-border e-commerce platforms and live streaming. Class monitor Maipato Veronica Maine (Chinese name “Luo Ni”), who aspires to help address South Africa’s energy crisis, interned at Wuhan Fiber Home FuHua Electric Co., Ltd., a company dedicated to new energy technologies, including R&D, production, sales, and services related to products with independent intellectual property rights. “Ma Yini,” a South African college graduate in mathematics, worked with Big Trade Data Ltd., a company focused on managing trade data platforms.

网店里卖的都是“中国制造”,很受国外买家欢迎 Online Stores Specializing in “Made in China” Products Have Gained Popularity Among Foreign Buyers

第一段实习持续了两个月,留学生们成果斐然。“礼物”所在的7人小组,已在Jumia、Noon和Amazon平台开了3家“中国制造”专卖网店,从中国一家网站上进货。汽车点火器、桨板是店里的明星产品,已卖了几千美元。

The first phase of the internship lasted for two months, during which the international students achieved remarkable results. Li Wu’s team, consisting of seven members, successfully launched three online stores on Jumia, Noon, and Amazon, all dedicated to selling “Made in China” products. They source their products from a Chinese website to maintain inventory. Among their best-selling items are automotive ignitors and paddle boards, which have collectively generated thousands of dollars in sales.

一火三焱跨境电子商务有限公司总经理李威说:“当地人最了解当地人的需求。中国在跨境电商领域处于全球领先地位,留学生们学到我们的先进经验、创业精神后,开辟了多条有创意和竞争力的卖货赛道。”烽火富华电气公司国际销售部经理李燚瑾介绍,公司两位留学生一直在学电力技术并跑南非市场,她期待早日带他们去南非出差、参加新能源展会。武汉国贸通大数据有限公司国际部部长彭致远说,南非留学生们基础不错,擅长学习和人际交往,能为公司拓展“一带一路”业务提供助力。

Li Wei, general manager of Fire’s E-commerce, remarked, “Local people are the best to understand local needs. China is a global leader in cross-border e-commerce. After learning from our advanced experience and entrepreneurial spirit, the international students have opened up creative and competitive sales channels based on their understanding of local markets.” Li Yijin, manager of the international sales department at Wuhan Fiber Home FuHua Electric Co., Ltd., shared that two international students from the company have been learning electric power technology while exploring the South African market. She expressed her enthusiasm for taking them on a business trip to South Africa and participate in a new energy exhibition. Peng Zhiyuan, head of the international department at Big Trade Data Ltd., mentioned that South African students are skilled at learning and interpersonal communication, qualities that can aid the company in expanding its business and advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.

留学生们的《茉莉花》International Students and “Jasmine Flower” (Molihua)

在学校,南非留学生们是“明星”——他们曾穿汉服登台演唱著名中国民歌《茉莉花》,惊艳全场。

On campus, the South African students are true “stars.” They once performed on stage wearing Hanfu, singing the famous Chinese folk song "Jasmine Flower", captivating the audience.

10月17日,工作午休时段,Ramulifho Mpho(中文名为“木福”)和留学生同学们再次唱起这首歌,但“舞台”换成了TikTok直播。接着,他们又唱跳了自创的RAP版湖北恩施民歌《六口茶》。“我的粉丝很喜欢我发的中国留学生活。”“木福”骄傲地说,他在Tik Tok上有2.1万粉丝了。

On October 17th, during the lunch break, Ramulifho Mpho (Chinese name “Mu Fu”) and his fellow students performed     the song againthis time live on TikTok. After performing “Jasmine Flower,” they followed up with their own rap version of “Six Sips of Tea,” a folk song from the Tujia ethnic group in Enshi, Hubei Province. “My fans really enjoy watching videos of my life in China,” Mu Fu proudly said. It was noted that he has gained 21,000 followers on TikTok.

“网友喜欢看中国的内容。”Mukalaha vho-Tshimange(中文名为“马恩”)说,他在TikTok上有个“10万+”的爆款视频,拍的是校门口人行道上停着的一长串电动车。“南非没有这么物美价廉的交通工具,如果我们想引进电动车回国,必须得解决电力配套难题——罗妮他们正在学这个。我们要向中国学的太多了。”

“Netizens are interested in China,”said Mukalaha vho-Tshimange(Chinese name “Ma En”). One of his TikTok videos went viral, receiving over 100,000 likes. The video featured a row of electric scooters parked along the sidewalk in front of the school gate.“South Africa does not have such affordable and convenient transportation options. If we want to introduce electric vehicles back home, we must address the challenge of power infrastructure—this is exactly what Luo Ni and her peers are studying. There is so much we can learn from China.”

在送留学生们来武汉时,南非高教部批发与零售培训署董事会成员Thandeka Ntshangase嘱咐他们,国家选拔最优秀的青年到中国学习,是希望他们成为新经济的“种子”,未来为国家发展做贡献。

When accompanying the students to Wuhan, Thandeka Ntshangase, a board member of the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) in South Africa, encouraged them by stating that the country selects its finest youth to study in China with the hope that they will become the“seeds”of the new economy, contributing to the future development of South Africa.

中国的高职院校、企业希望他们还担当更多角色:联通中国和南非合作的桥梁、南非乃至世界看中国的窗口。“南非作为金砖国家和‘一带一路’重要参与国家,未来将和中国在教育和经贸领域开展更多合作。留学生们大有可为。”武软商学院跨境电商教研室主任肖滢说。

China’s vocational colleges and enterprises have higher expectations for these international students, hoping that they can serve as a bridge of cooperation between China and South Africa and act as windows through which South Africa, and even the world, can witness China’s development. “As a member of BRICS and a key participant in the Belt and Road Initiative, South Africa will expand its cooperation with China in education and trade. We believe that international students will play a crucial rolein shaping global development,” said Xiao Ying, Director of the Cross-Border E-Commerce Teaching and Research Section at the Business School of WHVCSE.

在中国的学习,很开心 A Happy Journey of Studying in China

一直跟踪研究“丝路电商工坊(南非)”项目的华中科技大学公共管理学院教授黄栋说,这是中国与南非高质量共建“一带一路”的具体体现,“我们能看到,中国高校在职业教育领域具备了可以‘走出去’的雄厚软实力,技能培训完全可以被开拓为‘讲好中国故事’的新路径。这些都说明,金砖国家合作、‘一带一路’国家合作不断走向深化。”

Professor Huang Dong from the School of Public Administration of  Huazhong University of Science and Technologywho has been closely following the “Silk Road E-Commerce Workshop (South Africa)” project, noted that this initiative serves as atangible example of the high-quality collaboration between China and South Africa under the Belt and Road Initiative.“We can see that Chinese universities have developed strong soft power in vocational education, and such training programs can serve as a new path for ‘telling China’s story.’ This shows that the cooperation among BRICS countries and Belt and Road countries continues to deepen.”
